A match made in heaven… or with basketball! Lauren & Shailen, your adventure couples session was a DREAM. Who knew adventure sessions could happen in Indiana? Welp, you bet they can! As an Indiana Photographer, we know a LOT of the good adventure spots, and believe it or not… Indiana is full of them! So when Shailen reached out and said she wanted to surprise her girlfriend with a couples session, we knew just the spot! We headed to one of our secret local spots and captured these two just hours before Lauren had to head back to NY! More on their long distance relationship to come…so what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in!
“I (Shailen) was in Minneapolis to speak at a WBCA Convention during the Women’s Final Four. Lauren coaches Women’s Basketball for Fordham University. Fordham has been a client of the company I work for so I got lunch with one of the assistants. She invited me to get drinks with the staff that night and that is where I first met Lauren.
Lauren and I didn’t talk much but she would (apparently) periodically go to the restroom with her friends to ask them if they thought I dated girls/would be interested. We went to another bar to catch the game and one of her friends started asking me questions and one of them was… “So…is Lauren your type?” and the rest was history.
I kinda think it was a mutual “first move” after that. We went to a rooftop, started a game of flip cup with the other coaches and WNBA players and it was like we had known each other forever.”
Our long distance relationship is fairly easy, we’d say. It helps that we are both very busy separately but we do still put a lot of work into our relationship.
Being long distance really gives us the opportunity to build and rely on good communication. That’s the #1 reason we feel so secure in our relationship. Through fights or disagreements, we actively work on communicating in an effective way. This makes us feel that there’s really not anything we can’t get through. Along those same lines, we have used all this time to communicate about beliefs, values, icks, goals, really everything under the sun.
If we had to suggest a tip for long distance relationship it would be to still make time for it, just like you would if it wasn’t a long distance relationship. Facetime should really be your best friend. Make movie dates, cook together, take them to the grocery store, etc.
“In 5 years, we hope to still be thriving in our career and have a house to call our own. We’d like to be married and have traveled quite a bit in our down time. Potentially adding a baby to our family!!”
Their session led us to a beautiful and unique fall landscape nearby! It’s one of those locals only secret type places that we have all the tea on! The best part was, when we scheduled their session months ago, we had no idea this would be THE PRIME fall day. This session is what fall photography dreams are made of. The leaves were literally falling all around us as we adventured around this Indiana location.
This session was most recently featured on Love Inc Magazine! We hope you’ll give it a read there too 🙂 Thank you to Love Inc. for featuring our couples and showcasing all kinds of love!!
