We are Sam + Bryt, wife and wife elopement photographers, business educators, and LGBTQ+ activitists! We are so freaking excited that you are here!
If you are ready to go on an adventure, feel empowered, or learn how to level up your business, we are your girls! So.. what are you waiting for? Let's do this thing!
LGBTQ+ Proposals are some of our favorite to capture! Perhaps because they sometimes break the tradition and both partners end up proposing! We are so excited to share a double proposal LGBTQ+ love story with you today! You see, Krysta reached out to us in August with the brilliant idea of planning a surprise proposal for Maddy. Little did Krysta know, Maddy had already planned a proposal for Krysta in New York.
So while Maddy beat Krysta to the proposal first, we got to capture the second, double proposal! Keep on reading for all the ins and outs of planning a double proposal, and how you can make your proposal story just as unique as the two of you!
“We met on hinge (pandemic dating lol) I messaged her first but she liked me first so I guess we both kinda did! We both knew it was going to be something special from the first date and knew whatever we had was going to be something special in our lives!”
When Kyrsta started planning an elopement for Maddy, she knew that Maddy envisioned all of her closest family and friends being involved. So she got right to work and made sure that all of her family and friends knew the date and the place. She created a private Facebook group so that Maddy would have no idea of the plans that were underway. When we were deciding on the location, we made sure that it allowed for family and friends (all 21 of them) could hide but still see the proposal. The Facebook group was the perfect way to communicate with everyone without having to worry about Maddy accidentally seeing one of the messages come through on Krysta’s phone!
When Maddy and Krysta parked and began walking to our spot, I posted in the Facebook group to alert them to get ready and hide!
So when Krysta texted me that they parked, we got into our spots. Bryt hid behind a sign and I his behind a tall clock and they never saw us as they rounded the corner. I followed behind capturing the two of them holding hands and walking. Once Krysta made it to our agreed location, she got down on one knee and Bryt and I got to capture the whole thing!
And after Maddy said yes, she looked over at the cheering crowd and realized they were all there in support of the two of them. Tears began flowing, and it could not have been any more perfect!
But probably one of my favorite moments from this proposal was when the strangers behind us realized what was happening, they waited and watched. These STRANGERS hugged the two of them and shared their excitement with them. Folks, this is a sign that our world is slowly coming around to LGBTQ+ engagements. And WOW am I stoked for this. Happy tears all around.
After hugging and celebrating with all of their family and friends we captured a few images to celebrate. It might have been cold, but the love that these two share really warmed our hearts!
White River State Park is a beautiful park that has a canal. You can walk along the canal, enjoy the cityscape scenery, and take in all the views. Krysta and I picked the perfect spot (right across from war memorial) so that when she proposed, the city would be right in the background. We love White River State Park for the perfect colors that it has during winter (when everything else is brown or dead haha, thanks Indiana LOL).
When planning a session or proposal in downtown Indianapolis it is always recommended to check the schedule for any races or events. Downtown can easily get crowded and making sure that you have a peaceful session might be one of your top priorities. We checked the calendar and didn’t see anything too crazy that would interfere with our session so we were good to go!
They both got their rings from Flawless Moissanite. They are a luxury online retail company that offers high quality moissanite in a variety of colors.
Indiana winters (or anywhere for that matter) can be super unpredictable. Just the day after this proposal it was 60 degrees and sunny haha. So, we made sure to choose a location that had an indoor spot right next door so that we could warm up. With the museum being right next to us, we were able to use the restroom and warm up when we couldn’t feel our fingers anymore!
Whenever planning any type of session or event in the winter we always suggest being extra prepared for the temperature. Wearing under layers, wool socks, and doubling up on jackets is super helpful. Gloves are also a must when the temperature is cold. On this day it was “feels like -2” and hand warmers also helped to ease the pain of the cold!
So, consider your location and make sure you are extra prepared for any weather that may come your day! And always have a back up spot in case you can’t get to your first location!
After our session, Maddy and Krysta headed to a local Airbnb (The Sargent Road Farm House). Where all of their family and friends were waiting to celebrate with them. This Airbnb was a perfect add on so that family/friends who traveled in could stay and of course party it up with the happy couple! This Airbnb is on 4 acres and is perfect for any small celebration.
We hope that you enjoyed this double proposal! Although we didn’t capture both of the proposals, photographing these two was the highlight of our winter. We loved all of the planning and details that went into pulling off this surprise! We hope that sharing them will help you plan an epic proposal for your lover, too!
