We are Sam + Bryt, wife and wife elopement photographers, business educators, and LGBTQ+ activitists! We are so freaking excited that you are here!
If you are ready to go on an adventure, feel empowered, or learn how to level up your business, we are your girls! So.. what are you waiting for? Let's do this thing!
Last week Indiana had the snowstorm of the year, so it just so worked out that we decided to snap some photos in the snow of Joni and Keaton! Because well…why not?! This Indiana Winter Engagement Session is sure to make you just smile!
Infusing your own personalities into your session and outfits is probably one of our favorite parts of planning an engagement session. So when Keaton texted me and said that they just wanted to warn me that they were showing up in Carhart overalls, you better believe I was super STOKED for the session to come. Joni and Keaton used to live on a farm and they wanted to embed their “normal” attire with their session. But let’s be honest, the Carhartt overalls kept them WAY warm during the session so it was a double bonus!
If you are trying to figure out how to infuse your session with your personalities, just think about what you do regularly! Are you two avid hikers? Let’s get out and hike together while we capture you in your element! Do you like to check out local coffee shops on the weekend? Sign us up for a coffee shop engagement session! And if you are stumped, don’t worry! Our “Getting To Know You” survey will help us help you two decide what to do for your engagement session!
Now let’s get to business seeing these two cuties in their element, shall we?!
Wear Layers: Wearing layers is a huge part of staying warm during the colder weather. But not just any layers work, you have to pick the right kind! We highly recommend wearing fleece or wool leggings underneath your attire if you can (Smartwool is our favorite brand)! Or Carhartts like these two did 😉 And don’t forget to bring warm jackets and outer layers!
Accessories: Keeping your extremities warm is ESSENTIAL. If your hands are going to be out of gloves, it is SO necessary to have hand warmers too. Don’t forget toe warmers for your boots as well!
Shoes and socks: The right kinds of shoes for the winter are also important. We like to pair a good hiking boot (think Merrel, Keen, or Danner) with a nice warm pair of socks (We love SmartWool.)
Pack a warm drink, or two ;): We recommend packing a thermos full of hot chocolate, coffee, or a few alcoholic beverages (depending on location and age of course) to keep you warm! That way when we are about halfway done with the images we can take a break to enjoy the view and each other’s company!
Keaton took care of Joni’s kids every once in a while when they were in school… that’s the start! It was Keaton who asked Joni out first! Joni was hesitant, but well well well… here we are! Their first date was a concert and after that, their relationship took off!
Together for four and half years… Keaton asked Joni to marry her in front of a large tree in Redwood National Forest. Can you hear US SCREAMING?! That’s so dang adorable we have to take a minute.. omg. They set up the camera as if they were taking a family picture and then they got on one knee. Then they hiked 11 miles – again!! We LOVE this.
They say they rarely go out together since they have three kids… but when they do, they normally spend time in the evening together watching shows and eating snacks!! MOOD.
In 20 years they want to remember… “how in-sync our lives are right now. The kids are in school close by, we have jobs that allow us to be on the same schedule, and all of us like to do a lot of the same things. We get to spend more time together because managing tasks and children has been simpler.” CUUUUTE!
ALLLLL our best advice coming right at ya! Winter sessions can be difficult, especially if you don’t know where to start looking as far as locations go! So we’re here to help.
WOOOHOOO! We are loving this blog about Joni and Keaton and their Indiana Winter Engagement Session! PLUS all the bonus tips y’all get just for being here and being awesome 🙂 🙂
