Hayley and Corey contacted me about a photo session a month or so ago when they wanted to document a special moment in their life. You see, they just recently started their foster care journey and it really impacted their world and changed them forever. More about that in a little bit, but when we saw their story we couldn’t help but feel instantly connected to them. Then, we all quickly realized that Hayley was a teacher at my new school! It’s so funny how our paths connect sometimes! So we set up a time and met at one of their favorite places to fish, Fairfield Lakes Park, for their Indiana Couples Session! Now, let’s get to it, shall we?!
“We met in Indianapolis when we both began the Teach For America program. I had just moved from Chicago and he had just moved from California. Corey offered to buy me a drink when we were out one night with mutual friends.. I declined the drink pretty aggressively- making it clear I had no intention of getting “picked up” at a bar. We spent the rest of the summer hanging in the same circle of friends and eventually we formed a close friendship that very slowly turned romantic- however it did take almost 4/5 months to even attempt to kiss me after the drink debacle 😂”
“We pretty recently started our foster care journey that really impacted our world view and changed us forever. The Villages placed two girls with us for about 5 months that instantly made us parents. We learned a lot about a lot (some good and some not so bright)… but the loss when they moved on was really hard. I originally had a family photo session booked in Michigan right after school got out. That same weekend we were told the girls were going to move on to a new placement and leave our home for good. Our plan was to take a summer vacation with the girls and take pictures to memorialize our unique little family. We never got that chance.
Still- I felt that it so important to slow down and have photos to remember where our marriage and family are at right now. So many people wait for the big events to book the session.. for the engagement, for the wedding, for the baby to come. Even though our girls aren’t with us, they will always be a part of us and it’s something and a moment in our life I want to remember. Because although the pictures may not show their faces- our family and our hearts are so different than they were 3 years ago when we had our wedding photos done. I want to remember this in between time too, because it’s just as special ❤️”
Fairfield Lakes Park has a special place in their lives, it’s one of their favorite local fishing spots! So when I mentioned a few of our favorite locations for pictures, we all agreed that it was the perfect spot! And when I heard they had a canoe, they obviously had to bring it! So Fairfield Lakes is located in Lafayette, Indiana. There are 4 lakes on the property and they were created from previous gravel mining jobs. The lakes are perfect for fishing catfish and rainbow trout.
We also love that Fairfield Parks was more recently set up with a handicap accessible-fishing pads. One of the other amazing features is that there are even public restrooms. Plenty of parking, beautiful sunsets, and a cute little beachy area make this spot one of our favorite session locations for an Indiana Couples Session!
We hope you enjoyed reading about Hayley and Corey’s story, Fairfield Lakes, and seeing photos from their Indiana Couples Session! We couldn’t agree more that there is never a better time than now to schedule a photo session! Documenting your life, no matter what stage it is in, is so valuable! Schedule your session today to capture those in-between moments!
